Celestron Nexstar 102 SLT Refractor
This short-tube telescope with a fast f/5 optical system gives images that are bright and crisp
The 102 SLT offers a 63% increase in image brightness over 80mm models. And the 102 SLT, like the other models in the SLT Series, comes with a fully computerized hand control with a database of over 4,000 celestial objects! With its pre-assembled, adjustable steel tripod, the NexStar 102 SLT can be up and ready to use in a matter of minutes. Our new SkyAlign alignment technology and the included StarPointer Finderscope with a red LED makes aligning a breeze.
Because of its wide 1.7 ° field of view, the NexStar 102 SLT is optimal for scanning large areas of the sky and for superb terrestrial (land) viewing. A wonderful entry to mid-level astronomical scope, with the use of an optional erect image diagonal, the 102 SLT can also be used as a land-based spotting telescope.

The SLT to choose for those pinpoint star images and wide-field star clouds. The102 is a short focal ratio achromatic refractor, and thus ideal for low to medium power views of deep-sky objects. Because of the refracting objective and short focal ratio, this telescope performs at its best showing the brighter deep-sky objects in good contrast against the background sky. It makes an ideal telescope for an introduction to visual astronomy. It can also be used successfully as a white light solar telescope by adding Baader Astrosolar film over the full aperture.
Requirements. You will need a 12v Powertank or a 230v AC to 12v DC adapter power supply. This will need to be tip positive and regulated. The SLT mounts are designed to work from AA alkaline batteries, but because of the amp draw during full slew of the motors, they may only last for one nights observing, such is the nature of small batteries, particularly in temperatures close to zero.
Budget for a power supply, a weak light pollution filter such as the Baader 1.25” Neodymium filter, an A4 sheet of Baader Astrosolar, a single 1.25” Baader polarizing filter and a wide-angle eyepiece (something with a wider apparent field than about 60 degrees).
Celestron’s telescopes reach a new level with integrated WiFi! Leave your hand control behind and slew to all the best celestial objects with a tap of your smart device. Connect your device to your WiFi telescope’s built-in wireless network and explore the universe with Celestron’s SkyPortal mobile app for iOS and Android.
|Celestron’s newest planetarium app is an astronomy suite that redefines how you experience the night sky. Explore the Solar System, 120,000 stars, over 200 star clusters, nebulae, galaxies, and dozens of asteroids, comets, and satellites—including the ISS. SkyPortal includes everything you need to experience the night sky in an exciting new way.|
With Celestron’s patented StarSense Technology, telescope alignment has never been easier! Just attach the StarSense AutoAlign accessory, push the Align button on the hand control or smart device, and StarSense begins capturing and comparing images of the night sky against its internal database.
In about three minutes, it’s gathered enough information to triangulate its position and align itself. Then, press the Sky Tour button: StarSense will automatically slew to all the best stars, planets, galaxies, and more currently visible in the night sky.
